Masego – the Jamiacan with South African roots
Revealing the Awesome works of Masego
Masego is not your traditional jazz musician as he appeals to the younger generation with his hip-hop-influenced music, which is complemented by his smooth saxophone sounds.
Despite having a South African Sesotho name, Masego doesn’t mind how people pronounce his name as in the “States people don’t really care”.
The 24-year-old credits women as his biggest influence on learning new musical instruments. He is a self-confessed “Momma’s boy” who respects women.
Masego is best known for playing the saxophone, and he plays it well.
Ahead of his performance at the CTIJF, Masego addressed the media and SA Breaking News discovered the story behind what influenced him into learning to play the saxophone. Hint it was a woman!
“I was like in middle school and the substitute teacher, she came in the class with a binder and it had a picture of Miles Davis and I had a mean crush on her and the only way I thought I could win her heart is if I learn. So every Sunday, I just get lost in that – learning the saxophone. I went to learn the saxophone to try and impress her and did swimming to open my lungs. But the moment I got good, she was gone,” Masego shares.
